When installing a battery and inverter for the first time, it is important to check that the inverter has the firmware version specified here.
A minimum SOC protection limit of 10% is recommended within the system settings to safeguard battery health and prevent complete discharge during offline or loss-of-communication events.
1. RS485 (“Modbus”) Cable connection
Prepare the Modbus cable with wire end ferrules.
Connect the Modbus cable to the left connector; from left to right: empty, data positive polarity (A+), data negative polarity (B−), and ground (GND).
2. Connection to the inverter

The Modbus cables are installed in an RJ45-type connector. The connector is then connected to the inverter’s RJ3 port (see image).
Cable A (Data positive A+) shall be connected to pin 5 (PC_485_A, blue/white color).
Cable B (Data negative B−) shall be connected to pin 4 (PC_485_B, blue color).
Growatt
Growatt
Growatt MID and MOD10 KTL-XH
Cable A+ (black in the image) shall be connected to terminal 3 (RS485A1).
Cable B− (red in the image) shall be connected to terminal 4 (RS485B1).
Growatt MOD TL3-HU / KTL3-HU
Cable A+ shall be connected to pin 1 (RS485A1).
Cable B− shall be connected to pin 5 (RS485B1).
Then connect the plug to para.in or para.out (red in the image); both connectors support connection via Modbus RTU.

The Modbus cables are installed in an RJ45-type connector.
The connector is then connected to the inverter.
Cable A (Data positive A+) shall be connected to pin 3 (485A → white/green).
Cable B (Data negative B−) shall be connected to pin 6 (485B → green).
The connector is then connected to port 2 on the inverter (COM2 Interface).

Connect the LAN (Ethernet cable) to the RJ45 port on the SigenStor Home.
After mounting the Espen, download the mySigen app from the App Store or Google Play.
Open the app, tap the three dots, and then tap System Settings.
Under Operational Parameters, enable Remote EMS Mode. It is enabled when the button turns green. Then tap Save.
Then verify that Export Limitation and Import Limitation—also found under Operational Parameters—are disabled.

The Modbus cables are connected to an RJ45-type connector, which is then connected to the inverter. Depending on the inverter type, the cables are connected differently to the connector.
For inverter series S6-EH3P(12–20K)-H
Cable A (Data positive A+) shall be connected to pin 1 (RS485A, orange/white color).
Cable B (Data negative B−) shall be connected to pin 2 (RS485B, orange color).
The connector is connected to the left-hand port shown in the image.
For inverter series S6-EH3P(5–10K)-H
Cable A (Data positive A+) shall be connected to pin 5 (RS485A, blue/white color).
Cable B (Data negative B−) shall be connected to pin 4 (RS485B, blue color).

Enable the Modbus interface in the EMS system
To enable communication via RS485, navigate from Settings > Advanced settings > “Energy management parameters” > “iHomeManager access port”, select “RS485-1”, and click Confirm.
Connection to the Sungrow inverter
Model SHxRTThe Modbus cable should be connected to the COM port.
The A+ cable should be connected to pin 2.
The B− cable should be connected to pin 4.
Model SHxTThe Modbus cable should be connected to COM2.
The A+ cable should be connected to pin 15 (Logger A1).
The B+ cable should be connected to pin 16 (Logger B1).
3. Power supply
Insert the power adapter into the USB-C port for power supply.
4. Internet connection
Connect the device to the local network (LAN). A successful connection is confirmed when both the yellow and green LED indicators are illuminated.
5. Mounting
Mount the device on the wall using screws through the prepared mounting bracket.
Secure the Modbus cable to the wall with cable clips.
6. Installation verification
After installation, the device will automatically connect to the internet for device control.
Installation verification: Approximately 5 minutes after installation, go to espen.cloud and enter the MAC ID, which can be found on the sticker on the side of the device.
The installation must be verified to ensure proper functionality of Espen and the inverter.
If there are three green checkboxes: Done! Everything looks good.
If problems occur during installation verification, please refer to our troubleshooting guide here.
